Chronic Pain Rehabilitation

Chronic pain affects 1 in 5 Australians. Chronic pain is complex, involving changes in the nerve tissue and nervous system. These changes often cause the nerve to keep firing and increases the person’s pain sensitivity. So that chronic pain does not take over a person’s life, rehabilitation must focus on physical reconditioning, medication management as well as psychological coping strategies.

As well as running a tailored physiotherapy guided rehab program, our physiotherapists will liaise closely with your doctors, psychologists, and our network of specialists to ensure your recovery is optimal. Working on reducing pain meds, increasing muscle strength and joint mobility as well and improving functional tasks like walking tolerance, home ADL’s and work capacity.

Arthritic Change & Management / GLA:D(R)

Arthritis is an umbrella term referring to painful conditions affecting our joints. It can cause pain and stiffness to many parts of the joint and almost every joint in the body. There are over 100 types of arthritis affecting both children and adults. Sadly 1 in 5 Australians has arthritis, with a higher prevalence in women.

Some common types of arthritis are osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, gout, and ankylosing spondylitis. There are now overwhelming research evidence to show that regular, tailored exercises are the most effective treatment. According to GLA:D(R) , people with arthritis are advised to do a mix of mobility exercises, strengthening exercises and fitness exercises. GLA:D(R) is a structured education and exercise program developed by Physiotherapists & Researchers in Denmark to assist people with hip or knee osteoarthritis.

Both of clinics have physiotherapists who are fully trained and certified in GLA:D(R) Our Physiotherapy Guided Rehab programs will help keep you moving, regain strength and increase mobility of arthritic joints. The low impact exercise program tailored to your individual needs will help to build muscular strength, whilst reducing symptoms of pain and inflammation. Pre & Postnatal Care

Maintaining mobility, keeping strong, preparing your pelvic floor for giving birth and treating and preventing pelvic pain are all things we cover.

Our Physiotherapy Guided rehab programs will guide you through all stages of your pregnancy. These sessions will include:

  • The use of Pilates inspired exercies
  • Some hands on treatment techniques and guided Myofascial release of tight muscles
  • Strength training and Pelvic floor conditioning exercises
  • Stretching, joint mobilisation, and spinal mobility exercises
  • Set up of structured home exercise regime
  • Constant monitoring and progression of your program
  • Your program will be personally designed for you by our physiotherapist

The focus is on exercises to strengthen the deep abdominal, pelvic and postural muscles to accommodate the growing baby.

During pregnancy a hormone called “relaxin” is released which effects collagen in muscles, ligaments & tendons. This can cause low back and pelvic pain, so it’s important to strengthen the appropriate muscle groups to minimise this effect.

These sessions are suitable for you to prepare the body for labour and for recovery & preparation as a new mother. They also may be claimable under physiotherapy private health rebates

Falls happen, no matter what your age. The truth is, the higher your age, the more susceptible you are to falling. We offer ‘Dynamic Balance’ classes to improve all areas of balance and stability.

Give reception a call to enquire if these classes are suitable for you. You will  need to start with an initial assessment with one of our physiotherapists to identify what exercises you will need.

These sessions are designed individually based on research finding regarding balance and falls exercises.

Dry Needling

Dry needling is an effective and efficient technique for the treatment of muscular pain and dysfunction. It is extremely effective for relaxing overactive muscles, which contain trigger points. In simple terms, the treatment involves needling of a muscle’s trigger points without injecting any substance.

At Dynamic Stability our Physiotherapists are specifically trained in using dry needling extensively within their practices with great results.
